New English Contemporary Ballet enjoys a reputation for providing opportunities for its dancers to excel, working alongside choreographers of exceptional quality. This company of soloist dancers are at the very forefront of the evolving contemporary ballet scene within the UK. We show work that clearly places dance as the principal focus of our performances, work which is equally contemporary and equally ballet.
In our 2008 season’s programme we presented a stunning new commission from the Italian choreographer, Davide Bombana, and we continued to return to the work of the inspirational Richard Wherlock, the acclaimed Director of Ballett Basel. For the 2009 spring season will include 2 World premieres and 1 UK premiere, we will once again brake away from traditional narrative ballet associated with small and middle-scale touring. We have commissioned a new work by Craig Revel Horwood (Strictly Come Dancing), we maintain our exciting link with Richard Wherlock (Ballett Basel) performing the critically celebrated Folksongs and have also commissioned a brand new piece by Patrick Delcroix (Nederlands Dans Theater), his previous work for the company received outstanding reviews in 2007. Davide Bombana’s acclaimed In C Sharp Minor will complete the spring programme. Jamie Thomson (newly appointed as the company’s Resident Choreographer) will create a new work for the autumn 2009 programme, the full list will be announced later this year.
The UK’s first company led vocational school programme (New English Contemporary Ballet School) is launched September 08. Students on the course will not only enjoy he opportunity to work alongside our superb company dancers, but as Nottingham Youth Dance will themselves have 3 new choreographic works created on them and will tour as an independent company through 2009.
