10 Blocks Away is an abstract
choreographic portrait inspired
by recollections of New York
City. Derek Williams' New York
apartment was on West 75th St -
ten blocks away from the address
which forms the title of John
Patrick Thomas's music.
The ballet aims to explore the
jazz and classical forms,
presenting a palette with an
atmosphere that reflects the
pure pleasure of movement and
the drama of the moment. |

CONVERSATIONS IN THE PAST

Goodison
In all our human dialogues we
communicate both verbally and
physically. Our conversations,
whether with others or with
ourselves, ingrain themselves
into our bodies as surely as
they do into our memories.
|
The relationship between body language
and spoken language is explored in this
piece, which is a personal reflection on
real conversations and the various
emotional responses and sentiments they
have evoked. Whether open-ended or
conclusive, fragmentary or complete,
reactive, caring, aggressive or even
abusive, these conversations lead the
participants to unexpected places and
often leave them feeling vulnerable.

to China with Braunschweig

The sidewinding of snakes is
like the galloping of horses. It
is the snake's fastest way of
travelling.
The movement in Sidewinding is
inspired by the slithering race
of snakes over the sand.
Press Comments
'The mix of strength and
flexibility radiates a
fascination of its own.'
Basler Zeitung, 1.10.2002
'This is the pure joy of dance,
with couples and soloists
searching, chasing, missing and
finding each other translated
into a flowing, elegant and
fast-paced language that
expresses the essence of our
present-day appreciation of
dance.'
