The key to your professional future
This autumn New English Contemporary Ballet, will launch its own vocational training programme, providing full-time training for young dancers seeking to enter the profession. New English Contemporary Ballet School, nested alongside its parent company, will be the first centre of excellence of its kind, giving aspiring students the unique opportunity of working in close proximity to professional dancers at the height of their careers. This relationship between the school and company is unique, it guarantees students a close association with the industry itself, creating career pathways and opportunities that only a professional company can.
Course structure
Students will receive a minimum of 30 hours studio time per week, based around the core disciplines of ballet, contemporary and jazz dance. Other disciplines studies will include elements of musical theatre, choreography, body conditioning and partnering.
Students will work towards a National Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance). In 2009 the qualifications offered by New English Contemporary Ballet School will include both Foundation and full BA(Hons) degrees in contemporary ballet and in jazz and musical theatre. Students on the National Diploma beginning this autumn will have the opportunity to transfer onto one of the degree courses.
Performance opportunities
New English Contemporary Ballet School will provide on-going performance opportunities for all its students. Working in such close association to the UK’s leading contemporary ballet company offers a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the performance life of professional dancers, to learn from and to share experiences with those already engaged in their chosen career. The experience of performing to real audiences will influence and inform the learning process and students will be provided with opportunities to develop their individual artistry and expression which serve to underpin their dance technique.
New English Contemporary Ballet School students will be provided with the following performances opportunities:
o Nottingham Youth Dance - A regional tour culminating in performances at the Edinburgh Fringe
o NECB Collaboration - Performance collaboration with the parent company
o End of Year Performances – Performance season at the Sandfield Theatre, Nottingham showcasing students achievements
Progression routes
For New English Contemporary Ballet the goal for each student is employment within the industry rather than successful graduation from a training programme. Carefully constructed progression pathways led the dancer from student to professional.
Contemporary Ballet
Graduate students will have the opportunity to audition for NECB2, a graduate company of 8 apprentice dancers who will both work with the main company and perform independently with their own repertoire.
Musical Theatre & Commercial Dance
Graduates of the course will have priority auditions with the established West End agent Longrun Artistes.
