A CHRISTMAS NUTCRACKER!
New English Contemporary Ballet brings some festive magic to town!
Snowflakes and angels, toy soldiers, sweeties and magic dolls – they’re all present in New English Contemporary Ballet’s production of the most popular children’s ballet of all time, The Nutcracker !
Audiences of all ages will thrill to the story of young Clara whose nutcracker doll is transformed into a handsome prince who takes her on a dream journey to the Kingdom of Sweets. In a contemporary version choreographed by Jamie Thomson, the company’s acclaimed dancers are joined by students from the NECB School and children from local schools who study on the company’s Associates programme performing the supporting roles.
The UK’s foremost contemporary ballet company is well known for its exciting work involving young
people and schools and community workshops are being offered to complement the show. New English Contemporary Ballet creates a magical show, danced to Tchaikovsky’s joyous music and is a seasonal production guaranteed to put audiences into the festive mood.
The Nutcracker is at the Sandfield Theatre between 19 November and 5 December with performances at 10.30 am and 1.30 pm to suit school parties as well as evening performances at 7.00 pm. Tickets, at a very reasonable £9.00 (concessions £6.50 with one free ticket for every 10 booked) can be booked through the Box Office at College Street Centre (Arts in Education) on 0115 9476202.

A new home for New English Contemporary Ballet
Following some months of negotiation, New English Contemporary Ballet and School will commence the new season (September 2009) in our new home near the centre of Nottingham. We have agreed arrangements with Nottingham City Council to move to a stunning Grade II listed building and former Victorian primary school (Douglas Primary), now to be called New English Contemporary Ballet Studios.
Improved facilities will enable NECB and our Junior Company NECB2 to extend joint repertoire and to tour more widely. Additional class and rehearsal spaces will enable both companies to tour simultaneously next spring, whilst New English Contemporary Ballet School students will continue to develop their training within the most unique of professional working environments. NECBS has developed an additional educational partnership with South Staffordshire College which will support NECBS to provide its level 4 programme.
NECB will also continue to develop its regional pre-vocational Associate programme to aspiring young dancers and will also deliver a centre for independent dance in Nottingham, filling a critical gap in studio provision for the independent/freelance professional dance sector in the East Midlands. Community programmes will be offered to support dance enthusiasts by providing classes in street-dance and hip hop to salsa, ballroom, jazz, contemporary and ballet. We also envisage offering short-course programmes in hair and beauty specialising in theatrical makeup and hair design at level 1 and 2.

2010 Tour Programme
Our 2010 season is expected to include a superb programme of 4 works created for the main Company by some of the most celebrated choreographers in Europe. New English Contemporary Ballet's repertoire is rooted within the technical form of ballet, whilst is creatively more modern in style, we continue to break away from traditional narrative ballet associated with small and middle-scale UK touring. NECB continues its celebrated link with Richard Wherlock (Ballett Basel) performing the much acclaimed Running Red. New works by Craig Revel Horwood (The Hunger), Thomas Noone and Jamie Thomson should complete the main Company programme. Our junior Company NECB2 will tour works separately by Richard Wherlock, Jamie Thomson, Martine van Santen and Patrick Delcroix, capturing the very contemporary and aesthetic contrasts of our touring work.
